Did you know that Australia and Canada are the most immigration-friendly countries in the world?

Studying abroad is a life-altering decision and a prudent choice would secure your future prospects in the long term. There are a lot of popular study destinations but Australia and Canada are home to breathtaking sceneries, a multicultural environment, and a fast-growing global economy which makes them a preferred destination for international students. However, a comparison between Australia and Canada would be like comparing apples to oranges. Canada is known for its harsh weather conditions whereas Australia has a temperate climate. Canada is immigration friendly but Australia has a stricter immigration policy with a preference for highly skilled workers. Australia is closer to the Philippines and a flight may last anywhere between three to five hours whereas Canada is farther from home.

If you have read this far, you may now have a little idea of what these two countries are like on the surface but there is a lot more to know if you plan to go there for your studies.

Read on as we at AECC Global Philippines bring to you all that you need to know about Australia and Canada before you make a decision on your study abroad destination.

Entrance System

Australia

In Australia, you need to have a 10+2 system of early education before you can apply for a graduate course in a college. For a master's degree, you need to have a three-year degree and for a STEM master's degree, you need a four-year engineering degree. The Graduate Record Exam or GRE is hardly accepted but the Graduate Management Test or GMAT is widely accepted for management degrees. There may be a requirement for work experience before you could apply for a master's degree but that could change from course to course.

Canada

The Canadian education system requires you to have a twelve years pre-university education and a Scholastic Assessment Test or an SAT is mandatory too. Canadian schools don't follow a predetermined cutoff score. You can check the average accepted score on your university's site. Language exams like IELTS or TOEFL are required, regardless of the degree you want to apply for.

Cost of living for international students

Australia

Ranked 16th on the list of the world's most expensive countries to live in, Australia comes with a hefty price tag. Coping with varying costs of living is challenging, especially when they vary from one region to another. Sydney is ranked as the most expensive city in Australia, followed by Melbourne and Perth. Canberra is the least expensive city to live in, and Brisbane is fourth. There aren't any benefits like food security or health benefits available to international students in Australia.

Canada

In this new era, the meaning of a "generous government benefit" needs to be reconsidered. In Canada, for example, generous food security and health benefits are offered to citizens. Additionally, their cost of living is a bit lower when compared with other countries, like Australia. According to an estimate, one would need about $1,650-$2,500 every month and $5,158 for an average family. As an international student, you would be eligible for health benefits too.

Weather and living conditions

Australia

Australia differs substantially from Canada in many ways, starting with the climate. The Australian weather is known for its warm summers and mild winters, while Canada has hot summers and cold winters. This difference is not just a matter of seasonal preference. The humidity levels in Australia are much lower than in Canada during the summer, which can make the daily experience more pleasant for visitors.

Canada

If you're moving to Canada, you'll be in for some amazing weather. The temperatures here are warm and humid during the summer and cold winters. The Canadian weather has a lot of variance in temperature, so it's a good idea to invest in a few layers. The winters can get really harsh and an international student may take some time to get used to it. But, you would love the weather if you are a sports enthusiast and can indulge in winter sports like skiing, snowboarding, and rafting.

Post Graduate work visa

Australia

To be eligible for an Australia post-study work visa, you must have completed a Bachelor's degree or a Master's degree as well as hold a study visa. If you are also a skilled worker, you can apply for an 18-month subclass 485 visa. Open and competitive markets coupled with a skilled workforce make Australia's private sector dynamic and a preferred location for job seekers after studies.

Canada

International students who have studied at least one year of post-secondary institutes can work in any industry after graduation in Canada. This Post Graduation Work Visa is valid for three years. You can apply for it as soon as you finish your degree, or before you finish your studies. The visa is valid for the time that you are studying plus three additional years.

Job opportunities

Australia

In the past few years, Australia has become a hot spot for immigration. In fact, many people are coming to Australia specifically to seek better job opportunities. In particular, immigrants might choose to come here for jobs in the fields of IT, construction, medicine, and construction. As a result, Australia has one of the fastest-growing economies in the world.

Canada

Canada offers various job options in the field of engineering, medicine, data, and business management. There is a surge in demand for their engineering, medical business management, and data analytics courses due to the rise in demand for technical professionals. But there are also some less conventional choices like Eastern medicine, Theology, and Performing Arts and Canada is slowly catching up as an art and theatre hub.
