Types of New Zealand student visa

Pathway Student Visa:   

With this student visa for New Zealand, you can Study up to 3 courses, one after the other, on a single student visa.

  • Work part-time up to 20 hours/week while studying.
  • Work full-time in the holidays, depending on your program.

Exchange Student Visa: 

With this type of student visa for New Zealand, you can Study full-time as an exchange student from one school to another.

Fee-Paying Student Visa:  

With this type of student visa for New Zealand, you can study full-time at the course stated on your visa.

  • Work part-time up to 20 hours/week while studying.
  • Work full-time in the holidays, depending on your visa conditions.

New Zealand student visa documentation checklist

  • An offer letter from an approved education provider.
  • Your passport must be valid for at least a period of three months beyond your stay in New Zealand.
  • Two passport-sized photographs. 
  • Completed Student Visa Application Form (INZ 1012).
  • The receipt of your visa application fee.
  • Proof of payment of tuition fees or sufficient funds to pay the fees.
  • Documents Proving that you have sufficient funds to live there.
  • If your course is longer than 36 weeks, a valid proof of at least NZD $15,000 is required.
  • If your course is shorter than 36 weeks, evidence that you have at least NZD $1,250/month.
  • Proof of health and character- Medical certificate and a police certificate.
  • Proof of return arrangements or proof of funds to procure return arrangements. 

Additional documents

  •  Documents or certificates from institutions that you have attended.
  •  Score sheets from English tests such as TOEFLGRE, or GMAT, etc.

New Zealand student visa application process

The student Visa for New Zealand can be applied online through New Zealand’s official Immigration website. You can apply 120 days prior to the start date of your program/course. After you’ve completed your online application, you will receive an email notifying you of the outcome of your visa application. The email will notify you whether you can collect your visa and when.
