North Island College is a comprehensive community college that focuses on student success. The college proudly serves more than 9,000 students annually at our four campuses, learning centre and through online and in-community learning. NIC was established in 1975 as a primarily distance education institution. The institution is distinguished by the commitment to student success through strong partnership agreements with universities and colleges across British Columbia, the US and around the world. NIC has been internationally recognized for its technology-enabled distance learning and responsive in-community programs.

NIC’s Centre for Applied Research, Technology and Innovation (CARTI) connects NIC expert staff and students with local businesses and organizations to develop innovative solutions to current challenges. The goal is to connect communities through research. The institution offers services to support research project development, project management and funding.
